History of Sorrento Skies

Sorrento Skies was started in the late 1970’s by C E Pitts.  From the original sales brochure (pictured here), it states “Mr. Pitts began to look for the perfect retirement place… property was acquired in various areas but each still lacked the ultimate quality he was seeking….finally, Sorrento Skies, a beautiful mountain wilderness that had remained untouched for many years, became a reality.

Here, Mr Pitts found beauty that reigns through every season. The early spring comes alive with the pink and white of the Rhododendron and Dogwood…Summer captures the intense beauty of the fields of wildflowers fringed with vivid green foliage…Autumn bathes the mount sides in a glory of color that defies the artist’s brush and Winter is heralded with sparking frost and velvet blankets of new fallen snow…every season is time of loveliness.” These words are as true today as they were those many years ago.

Sorrento Skies is located mid-way between Boone and Blowing Rock.  There is easy access to many hiking trails, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Tweetsie Railroad (North Carolina’s first theme park), Appalachian State University and several ski slopes.   A vacation destination that you call home!
